Plaza Mayor

The origins of the square date back to the 16th century, when at the confluence of the roads (now streets) of Toledo and Atocha, on the outskirts of the medieval town, the main market of the town was held at this site, known as the “Plaza del Arrabal.” During this time, a first porticoed house, or marketplace, was built to regulate trade in the square.
